A few things you should know about nurses/nursing!

Ok i've been a nurse now since I was 18 so no matter how shocking or gross you think something is, believe me i've seen worse.
When you are a nurse you develop a thick skin, and nothing really upsets us... for instance i've been pee'd on, poo'd on and once someone puked in my pocket....niiiiccceeeee (thanks for that). We have bladders that can hold 2 litres and we have eyes in the back of our heads. I think we are all pretty awesome and I love my job and my collegues (stories about them soon). No matter how crap our day is we look after each other!!

When you work where I do (pre-op and theatres) the day is filled with the same questions you ask your patients day in, day out. So can I just say, if any of you that read this blog (if anyone) ever has to go to hospital for an operation there are a few things you should know:

1. When I ask you if you have an allergy to something, Saying 'the wife/girlfriend and/or work really isn't funny!! oh and also don't bother with pain or doctors either!!

2. When I ask you if you have any problems with your hearing please don't say 'What' or 'pardon' because I can gaurentee i've already heard that little gem at least twice that day!!!

3. When I ask you what time you last had some thing to eat or drink . I mean the time you last ate or DRANK!!..... I don't know why it's difficult to answer that but at least 75% of people will answer the said question with........ 'oh before midnight yesterday' but I now know to follow that with 'was that your last drink too?' to which I get the reply 'oh no love I had a drink at 6am this morning'!!!!!!
Erm i'm sure I just asked the time of your last food or DRINK?? Not just food!!!!. This does sound petty but I hate looking like a div when the anaesthetist asks the same question and I have differing information written down on a Leagal document!!

4. When I need to take a blood sample from you and I say 'keep as still as you can please', That means DON'T MOVE or i'll no doubt have to stick another needle in you because you moved  the first time!!!

5. Lastly when ask if you have anyone to stay with you overnight after your operation, asking me if i'm free after work really isn't an option!!

One thing that baffles nearly every nurse (female ones anyway) is why blokes think the nurses uniform is sexy!!
They are uncomfortable, unflattering and you boil your ass off wearing them.

So this.......  isn't what we wear, SORRY!!

This IS what we wear!......... SEXY EH!!!........ NOT...... oh BTW I have no idea who these people are!!

I'll have plenty of stories to tell about being a nurse but this will do you all for now!
